Six Functions of Drip Irrigation for Fruit Trees

1、 Increase the yield and improve the quality. Therefore, compared with other irrigation methods, the yield of drip irrigation of fruit trees has been improved and the quality of fruit has also been improved because drip irrigation has the advantages of uniform irrigation, direct delivery of irrigation water and chemical fertilizers dissolved in water to the root area of fruit trees, which can timely and appropriately meet the water and nutrients required for the growth of fruit trees.

2、 Saving irrigation water Because drip irrigation directly transfers irrigation water from the water source to the root of fruit trees through a closed pipeline system, it eliminates evaporation and leakage losses in the process of channel water delivery, such as field runoff and deep leakage losses, so that irrigation water only moistens the local soil in the root area of fruit trees, and also reduces soil evaporation losses between plants and rows, field runoff and deep leakage losses, compared with surface irrigation methods, so as to improve the utilization rate of irrigation water. The test results in various places show that drip irrigation saves about 50% - 70% of water compared with surface irrigation. Orchards installed with fruit tree drip irrigation system realize pipeline water delivery and fixed irrigation device (emitter) irrigation, which not only greatly improves the irrigation efficiency, but also saves labor. In hilly areas, drip irrigation does not need to build terraces and level the land, which saves labor such as canal building, water carrying and medicine spraying, and indirectly saves a lot of labor.

5、 Saline water drip irrigation can be used to keep the soil around the root system moist. Even if the irrigation water contains more salt, the capillary action of the soil can transport the salt in the irrigation water and soil to the edge of the humid area, reducing the harm of salt to fruit trees. Therefore, drip irrigation can be used for irrigation in areas where the salt content of irrigation water is high and it is not suitable for surface irrigation or sprinkler irrigation.
